Start the process early.
I mean really early. I first looked at the requirements of this visa about a year before we decide to apply for it until I know what the necessary method is in advance. However, it took about 3 months of downloading the form to the point of submission to collect all the evidence and prepare the required papers. If you are moving in from Australia, do not leave it until you reach the end of your current visa – this will only unnecessarily strain you to get it before the deadline.
The paper request form differs from the online version.
Because I am a very organized person, I downloaded the paper version of the form and filled out my answers in the draft. Then because it requires fewer copies and copies, I decided to send the actual form online, and I thought I could read the draft writing sheet to write my answers. This is not exactly the case! In some places, the online model wanted more information than you did, so planning ahead did not really speed things up. It would have been better to choose which version to apply initially and stick to it.
Collect all your identity documents.
You will need certified copies of your identity such as your passport and birth certificate as well as those of your partner. If these documents can be certified free of charge in Australia from the justice judge – I have emerged to the Sydney High Court and seen someone within minutes.
Check the police.
You must have a police certificate for any country you live in for more than 12 months. If you’re from the UK, you’ll need to apply by mail and pay £ 45 for the stock. It takes about 12 weeks for them to send the form back. If you no longer want to submit your application, you can attach a copy of the application form in the meantime.
Details of your family.
One of the things I did not expect from the form to ask for was the full name and date of birth of all my brothers, parents and half parents. We are a large family so it took some time to double check these details. For any married family member, you will also need to mention their wedding date (online form only). You will also need to do the same for your partner’s family.
Proof of your actual relationship.
To obtain an actual partner visa, you must be able to prove that you have been in a committed relationship for more than 12 months. If you live together (like Justin and I) for more than a year of providing lease agreements and service bills you will be sufficient. For couples who lived with their families or traveled during that time, the provision of evidence could be a bit more difficult, so keep the receipts accordingly. Common evidence can include shared tickets, shared invoices, joint bank accounts, communications, legal notices, and photographs.
Social factor.
You must also prove that you have a common social life. Apart from the years of joint travel arrangements, Justin and I found it hard to prove it (I tend to get rid of the old papers!). Things that are considered are common membership in clubs / gyms, joint invitations, and joint mail – so start collecting these items once you think about making an application.
Include images – but not too much!
You can also include photos to support your request. I chose 20 photos showing Justin and I in various family and social jobs with family and friends. If you apply online, I recommend that you place it in your Word document so that you can add the captions accompanying it. Do not make the mistake you made in making the document too big to load! We found 3 images and accompanying captions on one page of Word and converted them to pdf was the best.
Domestic and financial arrangements.
You’ll need to provide data on how to divide your household and financial arrangements. Justin and I wrote a statement in Word.
Statutory Declarations.
At least two legal declarations are required from Australian citizens who know you and your partner to show the legitimacy of your relationship. They will need to complete the 888 form and get a certificate along with their passport.
Visas.
As I applied in Australia, I was granted a lms visa which gave me the right to stay while considering our application. I applied online and the lms visa came immediately. From what I’ve read, I’ve seen that most applicants get a “A” visa that gives you the right to work but does not allow travel. If you wish to leave Australia while processing your application, you will need to apply for a travel visa at the time of travel, and charges will apply.
Applying online.
Once you complete the online form and pay the fees (OCH), you will be taken to a page where you can download your supporting evidence. This page contains various categories of directories that you can upload but to find out what is required for that specific visa, you should go back to the checklist. The maximum file size is not mentioned, but I have found that pdf files containing multiple images are too large so be aware that you may need to reduce file sizes or split them into separate documents.
Fees.
Current fees for a partner visa de agent if the progress within Australia is $ 7,000 (more if you have children and less if you are offering outside of Australia). We have also imposed a transaction fee of $ 75 (Ouch again). You can find details on our total partner visa costs here.
Ask for help.
I contacted the Department of Internal Affairs about 3 times before I started the application form, where I had questions about visas and when should I apply. (In that note: I have been advised to proceed as soon as possible because we have already met the 12-month relationship criteria and whenever you apply every time you apply.) valid when your current substantive visa expires, meaning that I can continue to travel to the limit Where my work visa ends on a working holiday, and then the visa becomes effective and I will need to ask for travel permission.) Each time I called the department, I was able to leave a message and someone called me on the same day. I found everyone I talked to useful and very comprehensive – when I was working on a case myself, a lady asked me to talk to me simply to tell her what was worrying me, and then she addressed all these concerns.
